Julio, a fisherman from a poor area, descends into social alienation, as he arrives in Manila to search for his loved one, Ligaya. Maynila Sa Mga Kuko Ng Liwanag is a 1975 Filipino drama film directed by Lino Brocka based on the novel In the Claws of Brightness by Edgardo M. Reyes. It is considered by many as one of the greatest films of Filipino cinema, produced by Mike De Leon.

Vilma was a single mother. Her only son was dying of leukemia. His only desire was to meet his father. To grant his wish Vilma entered into an arrangement with her best friend Hilda who suggested that she would "lend" her husband to the little boy to masquerade as the father.
