Go behind the scenes of “Us” with visual effects supervisor Grady Cofer. He explains how his team at Industrial Light and Magic brought Jordan Peele’s vision to life with cutting-edge VFX that allowed stars like Lupita Nyong’o to appear twice in the same scene. It’s no surprise those doppelganger scenes were so realistic. Industrial Light and Magic is the legendary VFX studio also behind “Black Panther” “Aquaman” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” They teamed up with writer-director Jordan Peele on his second horror film following the 2017 box-office hit “Get Out.”“Us” puts a terrifying spin on the doppelgänger concept and it’s full of hidden messages about class and American society. The cast of “Us” includes “Black Panther” co-stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke alongside Elisabeth Moss (“Handmaid’s Tale”) and Tim Heidecker (“Tim and Eric”). Nyong’o and Duke play Adelaide and Gabe Wilson a married couple with two children (played by Shahadii Wright Joseph and Evan Alex). On a beach vacation in Santa Cruz the four Wilsons find themselves under siege by a family of scissors-wielding invaders — who happen to look exactly like them. The night descends into chaos from there. It’s all set to an unsettling soundtrack which features a creative reworking of Luniz’s “I Got 5 On It.” Other highlights include tracks from Janelle Monáe and NWA — along with a very creepy use of The Beach Boys.“Us” is out in theaters now.
