The English are a funny lot. They have games that date back centuries. This one is called Haxey Hood. It has nothing to do with an axe weilding gangster though. The legend goes that in the 14th century, Lady de Mowbray was out riding and a gust of wind blew off her hood. Some farm labourers went to retrieve it and she was so pleased that she named the person who handed it to her, the Lord Of The Hood.
