Every 4 hours a car is stolen in Yorkshire, often by criminals using cloned registration plates.
Tonight, Jamie Theakston presents as Traffic Cops from North and West Yorkshire are locked in a clone war, battling to keep up with criminals switching car registration plates to pass undetected through police cameras.
With more than a million vehicles using duplicate plates nationwide, cloning is a new crime wave throughout Yorkshire and the rest of the UK.
On the outskirts of Bradford, a suspected stolen car on cloned plates crashes after running a red light. Leaving the occupants of a passing car with serious injuries, the suspects flee the scene. While West Yorkshire Traffic Cops deal with the aftermath of the accident, a manhunt for the suspects ensues.
Traffic Cops from North Yorkshire’s Road Crime Team hunt down a stolen truck on false plates, but stopping a 17 tonne truck in it’s tracks isn’t going to be easy.
And, on the A1 near York, North Yorkshire’s Road Crime Team are alerted to the movement of stolen road roller, but even with tracker fitted to the road roller locating it when it’s hidden away in a stolen van, once again on cloned plates, is a test for the Traffic Cops.
